Job Description: We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established independent small animal practice in the West Midlands, seeking an experienced and ambitious Veterinary Surgeon, with strong surgical skills and the ability to handle complex cases independently, to join their talented and supportive team.
The practice operates across two sites (just 5 miles apart):
One site, a 24-hour hospital with a dedicated night team
The other with a specialist orthopaedic suite
You’ll have the flexibility to be based at one site or work across both, depending on your preference.

Referral-level ultrasound with full canine and feline cardiology packages
Fully equipped orthopaedic suite
Dental X-ray and advanced surgical equipment
With a varied and exciting caseload – from routine consultations to complex emergency surgeries – this role offers excellent opportunities to develop your clinical expertise in line with your personal interests.
The practice places great importance on work-life balance: diaries are carefully managed, with consults ending 30 minutes before shift finish, and dedicated time allocated for case workups and client communication.
You’ll be joining a collaborative and diverse team of vets, nurses, and support staff who share a passion for gold-standard patient care and professional development. The team includes vets and nurses currently studying towards further qualifications in Dentistry, Cardiology, Ultrasonography, ECC, and Schedule 3 Nursing. You’ll also work alongside a senior vet who is a Cambridge Approved BOAS assessor, with advanced soft tissue and orthopaedic procedures (including BOAS, entropion, cherry eye, and cruciate repairs) carried out in-house.
Working Pattern
Choice of a 4- or 5-day week (9:00 am – 6:30 pm)
Weekend rota optional but ideally 1 in 4 Saturdays, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
OOH's - optional
Key Responsibilities
Provide high-quality clinical care across consultations and surgeries
Manage and generate your own surgical caseload, while collaborating with colleagues
Contribute to the development of protocols and new procedures within the practice
About You
MRCVS status
Proven experience in general practice and emergency surgery
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
A team player with ambition to develop further specialisms
