Job Description: 🌙 OOH ECC Veterinary Surgeon – Small Animal Hospital (Leeds)
7 nights on, 14 nights off | £55K–£60K DOE | Advanced Referral-Level Facility
We’re working on behalf of a leading small animal hospital in Leeds to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic OOH ECC Veterinary Surgeon to join their expanding night team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a vet passionate about emergency medicine to work in a forward-thinking hospital offering an excellent work-life balance and genuine opportunities for clinical development.
🕒 The Role:
Shift pattern: 7 nights on, 14 nights off (perfect for work-life balance or locuming during downtime)
Hours: 8pm to 8am
Team structure: You’ll be supported by an experienced OOH RVN and OOH VCA on shift
Additional support: Reception team until 10pm and twilight RVN until midnight
Salary: £55,000 – £60,000 depending on experience
🧠 Development & CPD:
£1,500 annual CPD allowance
Certificate funding and mentorship available (Surgery, Medicine, and Dentistry cert holders in-house)
Join a 70-person strong team, including 15 vets, all committed to in-house CPD and clinical progression
🏥 Facilities Include:
Advanced diagnostics: Procyte, Catalyst Dx, EPOC, in-house Coags (APTT/PT), full IDEXX range
Comprehensive imaging: Digital X-ray, Doppler ultrasound, dental radiography (CR7), visiting CT
Endoscopy: Flexible video scope, bronchoscope, otoscope, and rigid scope
Surgical tools: Gen11 vessel sealer, Valleylab bipolar/monopolar, Ligaclips, NPWT, and more
Monitoring: ECG, capnography, BP, pulse oximetry, multiparameter monitoring systems
🔧 Skills Developed & Utilised:
The hospital team provides training and expects the night vet team to be confident (or willing to learn) in the following:
Oesophageal and urinary catheter placement (pig-tail)
Chest drains via Seldinger technique
Abdominal peritoneal drains
TFAST/AFAST scans
Endoscopy and bronchoscopy
Caesareans, pyometras, enterotomies/enterectomies
Medical emergencies including DKA, Addisonian crisis, and severe pancreatitis
✅ Candidate Requirements:
Must be MRCVS-registered
Eligible to work in the UK
Previous UK veterinary experience essential
