Job Title: Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

Region: South West

County: Devon

Profession: Veterinary Surgeon

Category: Small Animal

Position: Permanent

Start Date: ASAP

End Date: Ongoing

Job Description: An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team at a small animal practice in the scenic coastal town of Torquay, just a short drive from the M5 and Exeter Airport as well as Plymouth Ferry Port as well as being well connected with the local train station. As part of the English Riviera, Torquay has something for everyone to enjoy ranging from water sport activities to the theatre, café and restaurant culture, as well as having several reputable schools.

Here you can have it all. From a fulfilling career with supportive colleagues, through to an idyllic hometown in which you can secure the best possible quality of life. This role is the perfect steppingstone for an experienced vet to progress into a leadership role with both Clinical Director and Ownership opportunities available, if desired.

As a 100% small animal GP accredited practice, the team are at the heart of community life. They take great pride in developing trusted relationships with their clients, and truly believe in working with their clients to provide the best standard of care for their animals.

You’ll be joining a team made up of 2 vets, who have 19 and 10 years’ of experience, 4 nurses, 1 student nurse, 2 veterinary care assistants, 3 client care advisors and 1 practice manager. The partner's certificate in small animal medicine and status as an RCVS recognised advanced practitioner in small animal surgery puts them in a unique position to offer a varied case load and learning experience.

This is a unique opportunity to join a locally owned practice that benefits from a real sense of camaraderie. They are a close-knit, collaborative team with a great sense of humour and complete clinical freedom. To make the most of this role, you will therefore have experience of working in practice, and you will have good medical and surgical skills. With many of the team having been with the practice for a long time and having progressed in their careers, and with the partners commitment to your development and being keen to support anyone else that is interested in research, there’s a lot of scope and potential in joining this practice in Torquay.

Your days will be well structured with an emphasis on quality over quantity, with an average of about 12 consults per vet per day with a reasonable procedural load. As well as time to catch up on breaks and admin time being factored into the day, their non-clinical colleagues also join our consults to provide support with some of the admin!

Ideally this is a full-time role, however they'd be happy to discuss other alternatives with you for you to achieve a good balance between home and work. They currently work 2 different shifts from either 8:30 – 16:30 or 11:00 – 19:30, with an average of 3 early shifts for every 2 late shifts and just 1 in 4 weekends, with time off in lieu for the hours worked.

Although 8am - 7pm are considered the paid work hours at the weekend, you’ll only need to be in the practice from 08:30 – 14:00 on Saturday, only coming in in addition to this if there are emergency callouts.

Included in the package on offer:
• Salary up to £80,000 commensurate with experience.
• 5.6 weeks holiday.
• Life Assurance 4 x Annual Salary.
• Contributory Pension Scheme.
• Paid Memberships (RCVS, BVA, VDS).
• CPD encouraged including support towards research or Certificates.
• Relocation Allowance.
• Flexible Working Hours.
• No OOH.
• Cycle to Work Scheme.
• Access to Colleague Assistance Programmes – Retail Trust, Port of Call and MHFA.
